Lyft Accident Tragically Ends In Death
Going out on the town is getting easier every day due to rideshare apps. People today are relying more on rideshares like Lyft when they are going out to drink and party. Lyft provides a cheap and easy way to get you to and from the places you want to go to. For those who like to drink, Lyft is the answer to getting a sober driver. But Lyft drivers are just like any other driver. They are susceptible to the risk of the road just like any other. Our Phoenix Lyft Accident Attorneys at Lorona Mead want you to know that Lyft drivers get into accidents just like any other driver. Lyft drivers do not have to take extra courses in safe driving nor do they have to take special care when they have passengers in the car. Because Lyft accidents are car accidents, it is important that you reach out and find legal assistance.
Tragic End To A Night
The month of March was heavy for the Phoenix community. On March 8th a father hugged and kissed his daughter for the last time. He told her loved her and to have a safe night out. Ali was 22-years old when she died. Ali and her friend went out to a party. Instead of driving drunk, they called a Lyft driver. They didn’t want to do the wrong thing and drink and drive. They got into the Lyft thinking that they would arrive home safely. They didn’t.
Around 4 AM, Ali’s father got the phone call to come to the hospital as quick as he could. Ali was on life support for several weeks before she died in hospice care. Ali and her friend were involved in a drunk driving accident while in a Lyft. A drunk 66-year old in a pickup truck ran a red and t-boned the side of the Lyft vehicle. The airbags deployed, but the passengers, Ali and her friend, suffered major head injuries.
When police arrived they smelled alcohol on the pickup truck driver. His blood alcohol content was over the limit. The pickup truck driver has priors in assault and drug charges. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, manslaughter, and other related charges. The Lyft driver was not hurt during the accident.
What To Do
The Lyft company does provide insurance for drivers, but only at certain times. For example, there is insurance if passengers are in the car or if drivers are on the way to pick up passengers. If you are a victim of a Lyft accident it may be hard to understand who is responsible and which insurance company to file a claim.
